WORKING VISIT TO BLAGOEVGRAD

Ambassador Immanuel Robert Inkiriwang paid a working visit to Blagoevgrad on 13 January 2009 where he paid courtesy visit to the Governor of Blagoevgrad, Mr. Vladimir Dimitrov; the Rector of the Southwest University ‘Neofit Rilski’, Prof. Dr. Ivan Mirchev; and the Dean of the Faculty of Law and History Prof. Dr. Sofka Mateeva. Ambassador Inkiriwang also gave a public lecture to the students of the Faculty of Law and History. Former Bulgarian ambassador and professor at the Faculty of Law and History as well as a member of Nusantara Club, Prof. Enyo Savov, accompanied Ambassador during the whole program.

During the meeting, Governor Dimitrov expressed his appreciation for the Ambassador’s visit, especially after knowing that it was the first working visit outside Sofia made by the Ambassador in 2009. The Governor and Ambassador Inkiriwang agreed to make further future cooperation between the Region of Blagoevgrad and the Embassy. Similar intentions of cooperation were also expressed by the Rector of the Southwest University and the Dean of the Faculty of Law and History. Both also mentioned their desire to establish cooperation with universities in Indonesia.

At the lecture, Ambassador Inkiriwang explained the history and development of Indonesia. He highlighted that the process of democratization that is taking place in Indonesia, as well as in Bulgaria will require more time to mature. In this regards, he stressed that upholding the rule of law is of outmost importance. Students who are leaders of tomorrow should play a significant role, he added, taking example of the role of Indonesian students at times of transition. In addition he hoped that some of the students who were present that day would be future leaders of Bulgaria who will assist in enhancing existing cordial relations and good cooperation between Indonesia and Bulgaria.
