EXQUISITE INDONESIA NIGHT AT PLOVDIV

As part of the Indonesian participation as Partner Country at the 29th International Consumer Goods and Technologies Fair (International Spring Fair/ISF) in Plovdiv, 12-17 May 2009, the Embassy in cooperation with Plovdiv Municipality and International Fair Plovdiv AD organized an Indonesian cultural performance, the Exquisite Indonesia Night at Bulgaria Hall, Plovdiv Fairground on the evening of the opening day of the ISF 2009 (12 May 2009).

This event was attended by Ambassador Inkiriwang, Mrs. Fely Rose Inkiriwang and staff of the Embassy; Head of Indonesian trade delegation to the ISF/Chairman of the National Agency for Export Development in the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, Mr. Bachrul Chairi as well as members of the Indoenesian trade delegation; the Mayor of Plovdiv, Mr. Slavcho Atanasov and his deputy, Mr. Georgi Shopov; Director General of the International Fair Plovdiv AD, foreign Ambassadors in Sofia, chairman and members of Nusantara Club, citizens of Plovdiv.

At his remarks, Ambassador Inkiriwang stated that this event is organized to thank International Fair Plovdiv AD for their cooperation for the Indonesian participation at ISF 2009. The event was also meant as a follow-up to previous meeting he had with Mayor Atanasov to cooperate with a view to enhance people-to-people contact between Indonesia and Bulgaria. Indonesia participated at ISF 2009, he added, to enhance economic relations between Indonesia and Bulgaria, as well as to boost Indonesian export to surrounding countries and into the European Union market, taking into account Bulgaria’s strategic location in the region and its membership in the European Union. While high quality Indonesian products were presented at the Fair, the night’s cultural performance presented Indonesian arts and culture to the people of Bulgaria.

This cultural performance featured dance group of the Embassy, the Pesona Mawar Nusantara, and Mrs. Erlina Pantja, their dance instructor who was sent by the Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Tourism. They captivated the audience as they performed 5 Indonesian traditional dances; Puspita, Lenggang Nyai, Bajidor Kahot, Nusantara and Saman Dance.

Besides the Indonesian dances, trophies to children of Plovdiv who won the writing and painting contests about Indonesia were also given. These contests was participated by students in Plovdiv between 12-19 years of age, and was organized by the Municipality of Plovdiv to promote and enhance the knowledge of the students in Plovdiv about Indonesia. Trophies and awards were given to the winners by Deputy Mayor of Plovdiv and Head of Indonesian Trade Delegation. Ambassador Inkiriwang presented special trophies and prizes from the Embassy to first place winners of both contests.
