RECTOR OF UNIVERSITAS INDONESIA VISITED SOFIA

On
January 26, 2011 the
Rector of the Universitas
Indonesia (UI), Prof. Dr. Rusliwa Gumilar Somantri visited Sofia
University (SU) ‘St. Kliment Ohridski’ and met with his counterpart the
Rector of Sofia University, Prof. Dr. Ivan Ilchev.
Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Bulgaria, His
Excellency Mr. Immanuel Robert Inkiriwang, was present during the
meeting of both rectors. Prof. Somantri was accompanied by the Dean of
the Faculty of Humanities at UI, Dr. Bambang Wibawarta and Prof. Ilchev was accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of
Classical and Modern Philology, Assoc. Prof. Petya Yaneva and Director
for International Relations of SU, Mr. Rumen Grigorov.
Both rectors agreed to follow-up
the Memorandum of Understanding
(MOU) on Academic Exchange between Universitas Indonesia, Republic of
Indonesia, and the Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, Republic of
Bulgaria (signed by both Rectors in 2010) with concrete and realistic
activities such as exchanges of lecturers and students as well as
cultural teams and to develop further activities and programs
such as joint research.
Prof. Somantri gave a presentation about
Universitas Indonesia to Prof. Ilchev and some of his faculty members.
The Delegation of UI and the Indonesian Ambassador also visited
the Centre of Oriental Languages
and Cultures at SU.
The UI is the oldest and the most prestigious
university in Indonesia, situated in the capital city, Jakarta. The
University has a long history since 1851 and currently has developed
extensive relations and cooperation with prominent universities all over
the world from Asia, America, Australia and Europe. The university
currently hosts about 49.000 students and 6.000 faculty members, and
among the top 50 universities in Asia (QS World University Ranking,
2010).
