Ambassador of Indonesia presented the donation from Bulgaria for the
victims of earthquake in West Sumatera
Powerful earthquake on 7.6 Richter Scale that struck the Province of
West Sumatera, Indonesia, and its surrounding, 30 September 2009,
invited sympathy and solidarity from the people of Bulgaria. Ambassador
of the Republic Indonesia to the Republic of Bulgaria, H.E. Mr. Immanuel
Robert Inkiriwang, presented the donation collected in Bulgaria,
amounting USD 3,333,-, to the Head of Representative Office of the
Provincial Government of West Sumatera in Jakarta, Mr. Nadiar, S.H. The
donation was collected from several fund raising activities conducted by
the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Sofia late 2009.
Mr. Nadiar, on behalf of the Provincial Government and the people of
West Sumatera, thanked the Indonesian Embassy and the people of Bulgaria
for their attention and generosity. The donation would surely help
alleviate the suffering of the victims, he added.
On the said occasion, Ambassador Inkiriwang stated that the donation
held important significance for the bilateral relations between
Indonesia and Bulgaria as shown by the Bulgarian people which would
positively contribute to the process of rehabilitation in the earthquake
struck area.
The larger part of the donation was collected from the charity activity
in the Mercedez Bens President Cup amateur golf tournament held in
Balchik, 31 October-1 November 2009 held by the Embassy in cooperation
with Lighthouse Golf & Resort and Mercedez Bens Bulgaria. The news about
the earthquake encouraged the Executive Director of Lighthouse Golf &
Resort, Mr. Georgi Tchouklev, to co-organize the event. Part of the
green fee paid by participants of the tournament was donated, as well as
from the proceeds of the auctions held during the event, including a
painting of Bali donated by the Indonesian Ambassador.
The donation was also collected from Christmas Charity Bazaar held in
the Residence of the Ambassador on 15 December 2009, organized by the
Organization of the Indonesian Ladies at the Embassy (Dharma Wanita
Persatuan KBRI Sofia) in cooperation with the Cultural Directorate
of Sofia Municipality and the Bulgarian Diplomatic Review Magazine. The
ladies of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan KBRI Sofia donated the
proceeds from selling various traditional Indonesian handicrafts
(scarves, wallets, dresses etc) to the victims of earthquake in West
Sumatera. The dance group of the Embassy, Pesona Mawar Nusantara (Enchanting
Roses of the Archipelago), entertained the guests in the charity
bazaar by performing ‘Tari Ngarojeng’ traditional dance from
Jakarta while Folklore Dance Ensemble from Municipality Institute of
Culture ‘Sredetz’ performed Bulgarian traditional dances and
songs.
Besides the two activities, donation was collected from the diplomatic
corps in Sofia, including, among others, from the Ambassador of Austria,
