Indonesian ambassador voted as vice president of the UN Human Rights

The Jakarta Post “The unanimous vote reflects the council member nations' faith in Indonesia to further and protect human rigths,” Kamapradipta Isnomo, First Secretary of the Indonesian Permanent Mission in Geneva, told Antara news agency in London on Saturday. Djani will seat the position until June 2010. The council members had also voted Alex Van Meeuwen of Belgium as the council's president, Andrej Logar of Slovenia as Vice President representing the East European nations, Hisham Badr of Egypt as Vice President representing the African nations and Carlos Portales of Chile as Vice President representing the Latin American and Caribbean nations. The United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly on a resolution setting up the new Human Rights Council to replace the much-criticized Human Rights Commission in 2006.
