Indonesia to host int'l conference on urban and housing Wednesday, 5 May 2010 The Jakarta Post
Indonesia will host an international conference on housing and urban
development and sustainability next month.
"There will be a series of dialogues, working groups and exhibition.
Subjects to be discussed include the community's role in government
management, slum upgrading, millennium development goals on clean water
and sanitation, funding for sustainable urban and housing development,
and the role of the community in managing climate change," Minister of
Public Housing Suharso Manoarfa said Tuesday.
The conference, named the third Asia Pacific Ministers' Conference on
Housing and Urban Development, will take place from June 22 to June 24
in Surakarta, Central Java.
About 1,000 participants, including housing ministers and high ranking
officials, from 68 nations across the Asia-Pacific region will turn up
for the conference.
This year's theme is "Empowering Communities for Sustainable
Urbanization." Budi Yuwono of the Directorate General of Cipta Karya from the Public Works Ministry, said this year’s conference would invite representatives from developed nations such as Japan, Korea and Australia.
