KUPANG:Komodo National Park has been included among the finalists of the new Seven Wonders of the World after the New7Wonders Foundation annulled its cancellation.

The result of voting released on New7Wonders’ website showed Komodo in sixth place out of 28 finalists, after the Amazon, the Dead Sea, the Grand Canyon, Halong Bay and Jeita Grotto.

Ubaldus Gogi, the East Nusa Tenggara Culture and Tourism Office chief in charge of promotion said the New7Wonders cancelled the Indonesian Culture and Tourism Ministry from the official supporter committee for Komodo in the campaigns. However, the voting continued.

“The vote for Komodo to be included in the seven wonders continued,” Ubaldus said in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) yesterday.

Ubaldus called on the people in NTT as well as the world to continue giving their support for Komodo so it could secure a higher place. “The voting should be updated daily. Don’t be influenced by the threat to eliminate Komodo,” he said.

Concerning the Culture and Tourism Ministry’s plan to sue New7Wonders, he said the lawsuit referred to the status of the official supporting committee.

Last Wednesday, the New7Wonders Foundation decided not to annul Komodo as one of the seven finalists on the list, even though the Culture and Tourism Ministry has refused to host the award event, which will be held on November 11, 2011.
