Indonesia will host an international conference that aims to boost youth awareness about climate change.

The “Youth Awareness on Climate Change” conference will be held in Yogyakarta from Feb. 21 to Feb. 24. One hundred and forty-seven young people from 37 countries, including Japan, China, Italy, France, Spain, Hong Kong and Singapore, are expected to take part in the conference.

“We expect the conference to produce a declaration about preserving the environment,” Youth and Sports Ministry deputy minister for youth Alfitra said, as quoted by Antara news agency.

The declaration will include a commitment from young people to tackle issues related to climate change. The declaration will be read at Mount Merapi. “The results of the conference will be shared with universities, schools and youth organizations in attendees’ home countries, including Indonesia,” Alfitra said.
