Environmental Law to be Amended This Year

The Deputy Environment Minister, Ilyas Assad, said that the amendment to Law No. 23/1997 on Environment Management is scheduled to be completed at the end of the House of Representatives (DPR) session this year. “The state minister for the environment is currently drafting the recommendations,” Ilyas said yesterday.

According to Ilyas, there are a number of issues that will be amended, among them will be strengthening the institution. He said the validity of environmental licenses is expected to be on a par with that of business permits. “If problems remain with regards to the environment, no license can be issued,” he said.
