The government is set to announce lower gasoline and diesel prices Monday afternoon after a Cabinet meeting to be held at the Presidential Palace, tempointeraktif.com has reported.

"We have calculated the percentage reduction which we'll announce after the meeting," Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said Sunday.

The government's move is in response to the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) suggestion that subsidized gasoline and diesel fuel prices be reduced to Rp 4,500 (41 US cents) and Rp 4,300 per liter, respectively.

The government had cut gasoline and diesel fuel prices to Rp 5,000 and Rp 4,800 in December, following the fall in crude oil prices on the international market.
