Indonesia is concerned that there are still significant gaps between UN resolutions that demand the international community uphold human rights principles, and their actual implementation in many parts of the world, an Indonesian envoy said Wednesday.

Speaking in the general meeting of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Dian Triansyah Djani, the Indonesian Permanent Representative to the UN, WTO and other international organizations, said it was imperative that the council remained committed to ensuring the implementation of its resolution.

“My delegation is concerned that there are still significant gaps between resolutions and their actual implementation, as the perennial issue of Palestine demonstrates,” Dian said in a speech, a copy of which was sent to The Jakarta Post.

“We also note that more work should be done to address the economic, social and cultural rights for all, including the right to development and protection of migrant workers,” he said.

He said that as Indonesia’s membership in the Council would end in June, the country would apply for membership renewal for 2011-2014, with the support from other members.
