RI calls for greater Asia-EU cooperation on crisis

Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda has highlighted the need for closer cooperation between Asian and European countries to tackle global crisis at the last day of the 9th Asian European Meeting in Hanoi.

Hassan said that the current global crisis had led to higher poverty and unemployment rate and that effort to tackle the problems couldn't be done properly if the two continents failed to forge closer ties. “We are in the middle of looming food and energy crisis ... Asia and Europe should be willing to cope with an agreed measure, such as reducing their carbon emissions and sharing environmentally friendly technology," he said on Tuesday.
