RI proposes establishment of Gaza Medical International Initiative
In order to make a better coordination in rendering health assistance to
thousands of injured Palestinians in Gaza, Indonesian voluntary workers
of the Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) propose the
establishment of Gaza Medical International Initiatives (GMII).
The remark was made by two Indonesian voluntary workers, respectively dr
Jose Rizal Jurnalist SpOT and dr Sarbini Abdul Murad, bothare members of
MER-C Indonesia, Andi Jauhari, Antara journalist joining the voluntary
workers to Gaza, said here on Sunday.
The initiatives were discussed with other doctors from other countries
at the As-Shifa hospital on Saturday.
According to Jose Rizal Jurnalis, some countries like Indonesia, Syria,
Turkey, Sudan and Algeria had raised this initiative which will be
supported by other countries who have sent voluntary workers.
As advance step, the initiative will be represented by some parties of
countries sending their voluntary workers and after that, a meeting on
this has to be held to crystilize the idea.
"We hope that Indonesia will become the first host to materialize the
idea into a reality, so that such concrete action can be taken to
provide integrated health services to the Palestinians," he said.
Meanwhile dr Sarbini Abdul Murad said that the agenda on humanity
through health would be welcomed by many nations, so that the Gaza Strip
which is currently suffering from poor health services and lack of
medicines could be helped.
Hopefully, the idea was not only expected by those involved in providing
medical assistance, but the governments and the people of countries
sending voluntary workers to Gaza would also support it, he said.
The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, last week demanded a thorough
investigation into various impacts of Israeli military strikes on the UN
managed schools four times.
During the Israeli military attack, the schools, hospitals, UN complex
and thousands of houses were all stricken and the Palestinian government
said the total damage of the military aggression may reach more than
USD2 billion. (ANTARA)
